February 17
After a quiet and restful evening in the parking lot of the Bradenton Wal Mart, we drove the RV approximately 100 miles to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. After parking in another Wal Mart we rode our bikes the 3 blocks back to the park. This facility is famous for its manatee research and its rehab for manatees that are injured by boaters.
A tram delivered us to the waterfront facility where a ranger made a presentation from the water with three 3000 lb manatees nuzzling him for fresh carrots and sweet potatoes. After the presentation we drove on, crossed over the Suwannee River and on to Perry. There we pulled into another Wal Mart. The winds had increased off the gulf and we felt it best to get off the road. On parking, we learned that a tornado had touched down near Pensacola, several hundred miles to our west. We will let the storm blow
over tonight and we hope to make our way west toward Panama City tomorrow.
