Ringling

February 16

Afraid of turning into “beach bums” we decided we needed a day of culture. We didn’t arrive at the John and Mable Ringling Estate and Museum until noon. Big mistake. One of the top art museums in the country, it has 22 rooms of masterpieces. Some of the Rubens paintings were about 15 feet tall. Three rooms held a traveling exhibition, some 80 pieces painted by Grandma Moses. The Ringling Mansion was just a short cart ride away. Standing tall on the shore of Sarasota Bay, this Venetian Gothic structure was very unique. We also visited 2 circus museums. It was all too much to see in 5 ½ hours.

Tomorrow we travel north, toward the Florida panhandle. The Sarasota area has been a fine experience.

WOW, I am adding all of your museums, parks, etc. to our list of things to see when we go to Florida. It looks like we'll be spending a lot of time in this area. A bit of culture and the ocean sun and breeze, that's the life. Vicki
