On Saturday, we found ourselves driving the 40 or so miles north along the west dike of the “Big O” the local name for Lake Okeechobee. Near the town of Okeechobee we found “Captain Don” who took us out on his airboat through the canals and swamps that border the lake. The birds were numerous and varied, the alligators abundant. After the boat ride we rode our bikes along the dike and into a few parks. This area is a recreational haven with the water, the abundant wildlife, the beautiful landscape, and, of course, the weather.
