October 20
Our timing was right weather wise. The sun came out after a day of downpour. The Hamptons were about 60 miles, the tip of the island about 100 miles away. The Hamptons are made up of at least four villages. We picked out one, Southhampton and visited the beach and ate lunch in the village. The homes in the area were huge, sitting on a couple of acres each, and completely surrounded, in most cases, with squarely trimmed 10 foot high hedges. It was hard to see very much of the houses. The village was just a few blocks long and the stores were of the Tiffany and Gucci caliber. It was pure entertainment just to watch the cars go by, RR, Lamborghini,
etc.
After lunch, we drove to the tip. The Montauk lighthouse stood against the clear blue sky and there was no wind. We walked about in our shirt sleeves and viewed fisherman and surfers.
