October 24
We’ve been on the road 50 days and this is the first day that we had to break camp and hook up the Jeep in the rain. It was a Puyallup weather day as we drove in mist to rain most of the 150 miles. We arrived in Chambersburg, PA at 2 p.m. This is the town that Lee amassed his troops before he marched toward Gettysburg. This is the only town north of the Mason Dixon line that was burned by the Confederate troops. But that is not why we are here. Lou and Linda, good friends from Puyallup, now live here. Lou, a former Colonel in the Army, is a war history buff. He will lead us into Gettysburg. Linda will lead us into the Amish country. We look forward to four days with good friends. Barb and I celebrated a rare event tonight. We had another first for our 50 days on the road. Tonight, we ate a meal in a house.
