Ohio

September 20,

Happy Birthday, Nathan

We arrived in Jefferson, Ohio last eve after a long drive from the rest stop south of Chicago. We learned that there are rest stops and there are rest stops. The rest stop on the Mississippi in Minnesota was restful, scenic and fairly quiet. The rest stop near Chicago was loaded with trucks that were in and out all night. We must have had over 20 next door neighbors in the 10 hours we were there. Most trucks left their engines running in the 85 degree heat.

We drove the red roads through the countryside. We passed through an Amish community in Indiana and were just south of South Bend, home of Notre Dame. Cornfields still dominated the countryside but the land became a bit hilly and trees lined the creeks and small rivers.

We are staying in a beautiful campground (1000 Trails) and, even though we are in Ohio, it is beginning to project a “New England” flair. Today we will try to visit several covered bridges in the area and the football Hall of Fame in nearby Canton.

The weather will be a beautiful 80 today. The pictures below are from our campsite.
