Niagara 2

This place is truly incredible. I now understand why this is often on the "top ten places to visit" lists. I must share one more experience from yesterday.

When Bruce, from the visitor center, informed us of how to see Niagara he suggested that we leave the car in the parking lot and walk the 1/4 mile down to the bridge, walk the 200 yard (guess) bridge and pass through Canadian immigration then walk the 1/2 mile down to the falls. Most of you know that I don't walk well due to my ankles so this posed a problem. We asked about bikes. "That is even better." he explained.

So we rode to the bridge but could not ride on the pedestrian walk. We had to ride on the street with auto traffic which was bumper to bumper. On reaching the other side we followed a car into a booth, showed our passports and entered Canada.

There was little traffic on our return at 9:30 p.m. but the darkness posed a problem. We did not have lights on our bikes and we were wearing dark clothing. The streets and bridge were fairly well lit. After crossing the bridge we had to pass through U.S. immigration. It was a stange experience in the dark of night, riding up to the booth and presenting our passports for reetry. I wanted to make some short of comedic comment of our situation but you don't joke with the border people. It is all business.
The picture on the right is Pete the operator of the light facility. He is holding one of the spent bulbs which projected 500 million candlepower of light.
