Surname meaning for "Aune"

Norwegian: habitational name from a farm name found in several places in Norway, derived from Old Norse au{dh}n ‘wasteland’, ‘desolate place’. This became common as a habitational name in the 15th and 16th centuries when places that had been deserted as a result of the Black Death were resettled.
